Anniversary Trip Part 1- May 2

Joshua and I have not been able to go anywhere for our anniversary for a few years because of having little kids. If we did go on trips, it was only out to dinner or somewhere else for the night while my parents watched the kids. This year my mom said that we could go somewhere not for one night, but for 2 nights! We had the whole weekend and we were so excited! Joshua had to work on Thursday instead of having it off, but he was able to get off at 5 so that we could finish packing and getting everything ready for our trip. Friday came and we started out by eating breakfast with the kids and then finishing last minute packing. My mom came over in the morning so that we could leave whenever we wanted. Unfortunately we did not get out as early as we would have liked. We finally left the house around 10:00 am. We headed towards Denver, Colorado on our way to Estes Park, Colorado. We were both very excited as we have lived in Colorado for about 6 years and have never visited the other cities. It was our chance to explore! Joshua asked if he cared if we stopped at Cabela's on the way out. Its a sporting goods store that sells all sort of things from guns to fishing, camping to hunting. It has alittle bit of everything in it. So we spent sometime looking around as we weren't really in a hurry. Joshua bought me a necklace there and he got a flashlight since he lost his last one. By the time we left it was lunch time and we stopped at Goodtimes and ate a hamburger and french fries. We ate in the car because we still had a 3 hour drive ahead of us. It was very interesting going through the other towns because I had been to parts of Denver, but had never ventured out past it. We past through Golden and Boulder. Joshua explained that they were college towns. I was not that impressed by them. We stopped a couple times to eat, stretch our legs, and go to the bathroom. When we got to Locus, the last town before reaching Estes Park, we were met with construction and delays. When we had the flooding last year because of all the rain, alot of the houses and roads were destroyed and they were trying to fix it up so that they could use the roads again. We saw some of the damage which was pretty bad where the house are no longer liveable. There were some long delays, 25 mins at one stop and then 45 mins at another stop, so we decided to go through Roosevelt Nation Park where there were no delays, but it took an extra 45 mins to get there. It was very beautiful going through there. Everywhere is so green. I love living in Colorado and seeing green and pine trees, beautiful rock formations and rivers running through and around them. The sun was so warm and we had been driving for so long that I started to doze off and on. It was not really a good thing as I get car sick easily. My hand that been hurting off and on that day as well as I wore my brace all day. We finally made it there and I was so sick. I had a migraine headache, my stomach hurt, and felt alot of pressure everywhere. I was so glad to be there. We arrived at 5:00 pm and decided that it was probably time to get ready for dinner. I did not feel like eating, but knew that it would probably be the best thing for me. So we found our hotel room, we were staying at WildWood Inn. It is such a cute place and they are so nice there and give good service. I would definitely stay there again. We had a small room where you walked into the bedroom and the only other room is the bathroom, but it was big enough for us. The place offers alot with private hot tubs (inside and out), fireplaces, steam showers, and they even have one that you can book and have all to yourself. After looking around town, We decided to eat at a restaurant called "The Other Side." The food and service was great, but they are pricey. I got a salad and started drinking alot of water. We are higher up in altitude then in the Springs, Estes Park is 7, 522 and Colorado Springs is 6,035. So I came to the conclusion that I was feeling the altitude, car sick, and hungry. Needless to say I was feeling better after dinner. Joshua and I forgot our swim suits and went in search of some. The funny thing about the town is that everything starts to shut down after 6:00 pm. So we were out of luck finding anything. We were disappointed. So instead we decided to walk around town and look at the shops. Like I said before things close down around 6, so there was not much stuff open. We did go through a few shops and bought an ice cream and a Carmel apple with Oreo pieces on it. They were very yummy. It was getting late so we decided to head back to the hotel and just relax. The weather was very warm during the day, but as the sun began to set the wind made it alittle chilly, but we were warm enough with just a jacket. We missed the kids, but it was nice having time with just the two of us. Sorry no pictures were taken on this day. I did not being the camera with me.
